Work / Speaking practice

English for work meetings

You do not need to speak the most to contribute. A clear update, a useful suggestion, or a respectful question can move the meeting forward.

Speak up in a meeting

Start meeting practice

Your turn

Give your team a short update on something you are working on.

Mention what is done, what is happening, and what comes next.

Example answer

I've finished the first draft of the report. I'm checking the numbers now, and I expect to share it by Thursday.

Your turn

Suggest a way to make a task easier for your team.

Offer one clear idea and explain the benefit.

Example answer

Could we use a shared checklist for new orders? It would help us avoid missing details and save time.

Your turn

You disagree with a proposed deadline. Explain politely.

Acknowledge the idea, explain your concern, and suggest an alternative.

Example answer

I understand why Friday would be ideal. I'm concerned that we won't have enough time to test everything. Could we aim for Monday instead?

Make it natural

One idea, then a pause

Try an update in three sentences: what is finished, what you are doing, and what comes next. Stop there and let someone ask for details. When you disagree, suggest an alternative the team can act on.
